Japanese (Certificate)
A five-semester program of study in Japanese as a second language to allow undergraduate students to develop competence in and knowledge of the Japanese language, increased understanding and appreciation of Japanese and Japanese cultures.
Plan Requirements
- A total of 15 semester hours is required; at least nine (9) credit hours must be taken at NC State. The remaining credit hours may be taken through affiliate programs (e.g. the or an NC State Study Abroad program).

- Students who place into WLJA 201 should pursue the Japanese Minor instead of the certificate.
- There are no other required examinations, presentations, or external learning experiences.
- Satisfactory completion of the certificate program requires:
- completion of the coursework noted above
- a grade of C-or better in all courses used to satisfy the certificate requirements
- an overall GPA of 2.0 or better for all courses used to satisfy the certificate requirements
