In this eight week laboratory course, students will gain practical experience with two key elements of tissue engineering: constructing a complex living tissue that closely resembles its natural counterpart, and assessing angiogenic potential for tissue engineering applications. Students will construct and induce maturation of multi-layered skin equivalents using dermal fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and various biomaterials, and employ paraffin embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques to examine the tissues. Students will investigate the capacity of compounds to induce angiogenesis in human cells using the Matrigel assay. Various biomaterials and angiogenic factors will be evaluated.

Prerequisite: µþ±õ°ÕÌý410/510 or µþ·¡°äÌý445/545, or BEC/°ä±á·¡Ìý488/588, or permission of instructor.
