This course introduces participatory mapping and modeling as tools for collaborative research and decision-making. Students explore how geospatial approaches support co-production with communities, from direct mapping of resources and values to scenario development and approaches for translating narratives into model parameters. Topics include the mapping process, boundary selection, art-based elicitation, and use of proprietary and open-source platforms. Emphasis is placed on iterative design, ethical engagement, and bridging mapping and modeling in applied contexts. Through hands-on exercises and case-based learning, students will critically examine the opportunities and challenges of participatory work, including how to navigate missteps and sustain momentum in collaborative projects.
