Examines the social, political, and cultural development of the Early Republic, the period in American history roughly from the Revolutionary War through the Administration of John Quincy Adams. Employs the life of Thomas Jefferson-the quintessential American, as the foundation for delving into the historical problems, interpreting primary sources, and analyzing secondary sources. Encourages graduate students to analyze the ways in which historiographic debates complicate our understanding of the Early American Republic. Credit will not be given for both ±á±õÌý459 and ±á±õÌý559.
Prerequisite: 3 hrs. of History
