MEA 443 Synoptic Meteorology
Analysis of mid-latitude weather systems with emphasis on simplified models and methods, including quasi-geostrophic theory, potential vorticity framework, and numerical weather prediction. Understanding of conditions supporting synoptic-scale meteorological phenomena. Topics to discuss include: Rossby waves, extratropical cyclones, frontal systems, cold-air damming, winter weather.
