MEA 444 Mesoscale Analysis and Forecasting

²Ñ·¡´¡Ìý444ÌýÌýMesoscale Analysis and ForecastingÌýÌý(4 credit hours)ÌýÌý

Analysis and forecasting of mid-latitude weather systems with emphasis on mesoscale phenomena. Definition of the mesoscale, approximations to the governing equations, basic measurements and techniques; observations, basic governing dynamics, and forecasting of mesoscale phenomena, including drylines, low-level jets, conditional symmetric instability, crographically-induced circulations, thunderstorms, mesoscale convective, and severe convective weather.

Typically offered in Spring only

Meteorology (BS)

/undergraduate/sciences/marine-earth-atmospheric-sciences/meteorology-bs/

The degree of Bachelor of Science in Meteorology is offered in the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Meteorology majors gain training in core areas of atmospheric science. Our curriculum closely follows the guidelines set by the American Meteorological Society. The program emphasizes a strong background in physical sciences and mathematics followed by specialized courses in meteorology that cover a wide range of topics from weather prediction to air-quality and climate.  A concentration in Marine Sciences may also be chosen.

Meteorology (BS): Marine Sciences Concentration

/undergraduate/sciences/marine-earth-atmospheric-sciences/meteorology-bs-marine-sciences-concentration/

The degree of Bachelor of Science in Meteorology with a  concentration in Marine Sciences  is offered in the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.  The concentration facilitates a minor or double major in Marine Sciences.  The concentration provides a foundation in oceanography and advanced coursework on the boundary layer and tropical weather systems.
