Introduction to language as it reflects, reifies, and subverts culturally embedded notions of sex, gender, and sexuality. Topics include the social evaluation of language as a gendered system, the acquisition of gender-differentiated language, gender and conversational interaction, gender and linguistic variation, and the relationship between language, gender, and other social constructs [e.g., class, race, ethnicity, and geography].
