ENG 328 Linguistics for Education Professionals
Study of the structures and variation within English (especially morphology and syntax) essential for education professionals to effectively navigate multicultural educational spaces. Specific attention is paid to differences between print and oral conventions of language use; error analysis; school and classroom language policy; and the application of linguistics to teaching reading and writing. Intended for English Education majors.

The undergraduate major in English is built around a 12-hour c ore consisting of two literature classes and two courses from  the following categories: Film, Linguistics, Creative Writing,  and Rhetoric. Students in the Teacher Education complete the core by taking ENG 328: Linguistics for Education Professionals and ENG 455: Literacy in the U.S. In addition to the 12-hour core, students take an additional 27 hours of course work in the major , including two courses in literary theory, an additional literature course studying an author or genre, and five English electives.
