PRT 280 Explorations in Virtual Recreation and Esports
Virtual reality, gaming and other immersive technologies are rapidly influencing the ways that people recreate. While you might have played games on a Nintendo Switch or visited a faraway destination in a Meta Quest virtual reality headset, you may not have considered the careers of people developing these technologies; the wellness implications of these experiences; or how relationships and society might be effected through their use. This course is an introduction to virtual recreation that includes exploring apps, games, and devices; business and career ramifications of virtual recreation; as well as health and wellness outcomes of these developing technologies. Course activities will include a blend of esports game play, field trips, out-of-class assignments using virtual recreation technologies, and investigation of research into the health and wellness effects of these technologies!
