Environmental First Year Program

The Environmental First Year (ENVFY) Program caters to first-year undergraduate students who have a strong interest in the environment and sustainability. ENVFY studentsÌýlearn about the diverse approaches to addressing environmental issues while being exposed to relevant disciplines and careers.ÌýThe program also cultivates NC State’s motto of ‘Think and Do’ by balancing critical thinking with hands-on learning within the classroom and through engagement programming.Ìý

Undergraduate students enrolled in the program complete a two-semester sequence designed for first-year students that is a stepping stone for various environmentally-focused degree programs throughout the university, particularly majors in the ¸£Àû±ÆÕ¾ of Natural Resources, Sciences, and Education. The ENVFY program relies on a collaborative approach by integrating support and expertise from both ENVFY personnel and the disciplinary advisors and faculty from the affiliated programs.Ìý

The program currently supports students in the following majors:

  • Environmental Technology and Management
  • Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology
  • Forest Management

  • Science Education: Earth Sciences Concentration
  • Zoology (Intended)

The Environmental First Year Undeclared option is also available for first-year students who want to explore the various environmental and sustainability oriented majors before choosing a major degree plan.Ìý Environmental First Year Undeclared students receive additional tailored support through their exploration process to identify a major that best aligns with their interests and career goals.Ìý
